Our Week Learning About Birds

The weather has been moody here lately.  From so much rain we had a train derailment to spending a gorgeous day at the zoo in t-shirts.  I saw my first daffodils while we were out driving yesterday!  They're my favorite spring flower, and it always makes me happy to spot them, because they're so short lived.

Plugging away at schoolwork.  Hannah got a new book, The Art of CursiveLogic.

We played a geography game this week, because...

...we finished our geography book!

Speaking of geography, Miss Katie is matching continent shapes and names.  She's almost done with her geography book, too.

Another trip to the library.  You may notice several bird books.

We're learning about birds right now, and reading aloud from a book about John James Audubon.

We found a simple drawing book about birds, and these were the resulting drawings.

We've been using the John James Audubon pack from Homeschool Copywork to brush up on handwriting skills.

Katie finished book 3 of Jolly Phonics!  She's now starting Jolly Grammar.

In the spirit of "using up" more of what we already have around here, we finally got around to completing the last of our ArtAchieve lessons!

This was the Sheep from Wales lesson, and it talked about sheep and wool and plaids.

This lesson used Sharpie, oil pastels, and watercolors.

I think I should have emphasized the ideal size and placement of the sheep before they started.

Katie colored one of the example sheep with metallic oil pastels.

We also had a field trip this week, but I'll need another post for all those pictures!

  1. I love the sheep. There's something quite charming about them. :)

And I love that you all are using up what you've got around the house. That's always my plan, but somehow pretty packages in the mail win out over sensible supplies on the shelf.

The bird drawings are cool, too!

    1. I think as it hits me, "This could be my last year homeschooling," I'm realizing that I have more stuff than we'll use up between now and June. :/

    1. We've got a train derailment to the south and a dam about to fail to the north. Crazy days! Glad the rain has stopped.

    1. Yes! I am happy to be able to say, "We did this. It's DONE." So much of what I do doesn't stay done, you know?

  5. Looks like you've been having fun with what you've been studying. I can't wait to do a birds lesson again this year. My 4 year old loves birds! Stopping by from the This is How We Roll hop.
