Our family got to review the new Boxcar Children DVD! Remember the Boxcar Children books? We have a whole bunch of them. Now there's a movie! You can order your copy today through Walmart or Amazon, or you can enter to win the DVD below!
We enjoyed this movie! It's Dove approved for all ages, and there's nothing in it that I wouldn't want my kids to see. As the adult, there were a couple parts that were "predictable," but the kids didn't guess what was coming.
The four children in the movie were orphaned, and had nowhere to live. They try staying at a bakery, but they overhear the wife making plans to send the youngest off to the orphanage and have the older ones work for them. So the kids take off. Through rain and dark and adversity, they eventually find themselves in the wooded countryside, where they happen upon an old boxcar that is sitting on an unused rail line. This becomes their home, and they do an admirable job of fixing it up and living off the land.
The older brother gets a job in town, and is able to provide for the little family's needs... until the younger sister gets sick. They take her to the doctor, and this becomes the beginning of the end of their boxcar days.

DeleteSuch a fun giveaway. We've gone through the Boxcar Children phase 3 times around here (4 if you count my phase before kids!).
ReplyDeleteWe had a big book sale today for our homeschool group and passed on the series and extra books to several NEW readers.
I'd love to have a copy of the animated DVD to show as part of a book club.
Isn't it fun to see your younger kids enjoy some of the same things the older ones did? :) We have quite a few here, waiting for the next reader to grow into them.
DeleteBoxcar Children has a special place in my heart. It was our very first read aloud book in our very first year home schooling!

DeleteI don't remember reading the books when I was a kid. I guess I need to check them out at the library.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read them, either, but Zach loved them so much, and was such a voracious reader, that we picked up a ton of them second hand. The other kids have benefitted from his obsession. :)
DeleteYes! I loved reading them growing up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for entering!
DeleteI enjoyed reading them as a child and would love to share them with my family.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to pass down the things that were special to us as kids, isn't it? It always warmed my heart to see my girls reading Nancy Drew books, since those were my favorite when I was young.
DeleteYes, my kids read the books and now I have grandkids.
ReplyDelete:) Such fun to pass things down through the generations. I have books that my grandmother saved from when my dad was a kid, and I treasure them.
DeleteMy kids have really enjoyed this series! There are so many that it's fun for them to keep reading!
ReplyDeleteYes. I think it's easier for kids to get into a series that they like than it is to pick up a single book that they may or may not like. If they've read one of a series, they already know what to expect. I often finish a book and want to find something else by the same author because I like the way they write. :)
DeleteI enjoyed the books when I was younger and would love to share this with my daughter
ReplyDeleteThanks for entering, Audra!

ReplyDeleteWhat a neat story! :)
DeleteYes! I loved them and now my 7 year old loves them.
ReplyDelete:) I haven't tried letting my 7 year old read them yet. She got a chapter book for her birthday, but she doesn't have the fluency yet to remember what she just read because she's still decoding each word.
DeleteI haven't read any
ReplyDeletePerfect opportunity to get hooked on the characters. :)
