Our 8th Week of School

This week's co op art project won't be finished until next week, and Eli asked me not to post the in progress shots until they're finished.

As I said last week, still loving the new grammar program.  I'm considering adding All About Reading for Jack.  I'd love to hear from anyone who's used it!

Being that it's October, I thought it was time for a pumpkin craft.  Eli used a mix of red and yellow paints... applied with his finger.

I decided to brush on glue and water soaked tissue paper for mine.

Jack painted his with a brush.  The craft kits came from Oriental Trading Company.

Eli decided once his paint dried that it wasn't quite orange enough, so he went over his with tissue paper.

The finished pumpkins are hanging in our school room window.

We're in the process of reviewing treasure hunts!  This has been a lot of fun, and in this week's hunt, the boys were asked to draw...

...dragons with 4 heads!  Eli's dragon heads all have different functions.  And the farthest left one is a bearded dragon.

Jack's dragon seems to be a distant cousin of an earthworm.

Miss Brianna has been dying to cut her hair, and finally got it done this week.

We started a new batch of water beads.  I always think I'm making these for Katie, but everybody in the house ends up playing with them.

This was a total pin flop.  I saw something on Pinterest about putting water beads into water balloons for a stress ball and thought we'd give it a shot.  It also mentioned freezing water beads for summer play.

Turns out freezing water beads is a bad idea.  Ah well, live and learn, right.

    1. Water beads: http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=water%20beads&linkCode=ur2&tag=greatbless-20&url=search-alias%3Daps&linkId=PQF5AOBSST3HWMUL (affiliate link) They're tiny little bits that grow in water to about the size of a marble. They're great for sensory play and fine motor (pouring) practice. :)

    1. I spent years trying to stuff the basics in. I've only been the fun homeschooling mom the last 3 years, since switching to a more interactive curriculum. I wonder how my relationships with my older kids would be different if we'd "fun-schooled" from the start, instead of workbooks for more than a decade.
