Our Week with Lots of Games

This week has been light on schoolwork and heavy on play.

Playing Blokus, one of my favorites.  Amazon links in this post are affiliate links.  Thanks for your support.

Playing football, as the last game of the season happened.

Playing tic tac toe.

Playing Uno.

Playing Yahtzee.

And playing dominoes.

We decorated the Christmas tree.

I may have bribed rewarded the teens with chocolate pie if they would put 10 ornaments on the tree.

We seem to be missing a box of ornaments, because some of the special ones for Hannah and Katie haven't shown up this year.

I really need to go through all the ornaments and sort them by child, but UGH, that does not sound like fun.

Using the pouch lids to decorate the felt Christmas tree.

When we decorated the tree, I realized I haven't updated on Luke for a while.  He's doing well in his new family.  He's going to school.  There's an appointment scheduled for January, after which his family should be able to get a court date to finalize his adoption.  I got a very cute picture of him at Halloween.  If you see me in person, ask to see it on my phone.

When Eli was a baby, Paul used to do clapping push ups with little Bubba on his back.

I reminded him of this, and he decided to prove he could still do push ups with big Bubba on his back.

And he can do clapping push ups with Katie on his back.  I'm very impressed.

This, of course, led to all sorts of demonstrations of manliness from Josiah, Sam, and Eli.

Taking advantage of holiday hours, we stopped at Toys R Us one morning after taking Eli and Brianna to school.  One of the staff thought the girls needed birthday crowns.  Okie doke.

The girls' new legs arrived by mail when I was in China, but neither is quite right.  We're going in to Shriners this week to get them adjusted.  Poor Katie's doesn't fit at all, and Hannah kept falling down at first because the knee wasn't locking when it was supposed to.

I've decided to let this time between Thanksgiving and Christmas be a more relaxed time of enjoying one another's company and less about pushing to get a set amount of school work done.  This is hard for me, right after the kids doing "light" school work while I was gone in China, but the reality is, with the exception of spelling, we're doing just fine on meeting our year goals.  I need to just chill.

    1. It was nice! I don't know why we don't play games more often.

  2. What a fun week! I took the time to sort ornaments according to child a couple years ago, and while it was a pain, it was worth it. They grab their box and do it all themselves now! I put a paper inside that they write where/who they get a new ornament from so it's become a fun way to reminisce.

    1. I think we're at that point. I'm going to have to make like Nike and "Just do it."

    1. Thanks! The kids did almost all the decorating, and I'm not even a little bit tempted to move anything. I know someday it will be just me decorating the tree, and I'll miss these times.

  4. All the games look like fun! Glad to see an update on Luke and that he is doing well. Had to LOL a little at the girls' new legs arriving, just because it sounds funny, but I'm sorry they don't fit right! Hope they can be fixed quickly so the girls can get around the way they'd like. Have a great week!

    1. Yeah, I found myself saying, "I need to do something about that box of legs today." Something tells me I'm not as normal as I would like to think I am. I think Hannah's should be an easy fix, but Katie's won't go on at all. I'm concerned about that one. We've been working on this set of legs since JUNE, and to have them not be right is disappointing.

  5. The legs in the mail line is my favorite of the whole post. :) And my second favorite part is about the demonstrations of manliness.

Here's hoping the legs will fit correctly ASAP and that your missing ornaments are found!

    1. With 3 teen boys in the house again, demonstrations of manliness abound. It's nice to balance out all that testosterone a little bit with curls and bows and ruffles on our little friends.

  6. I think it looks like a great week! We just played games and read books and crafted for the last two weeks, and we plan on keeping December light too.

Hope you get the girls' legs fixed right, and quickly!

    1. I'd be all about the crafting, if I didn't have 2 3 year olds visiting. But then, I'd probably be doing regular school schedule, so it really is a blessing to have a good reason to slow things down a bit.

  7. Your Christmas tree is so lovely! Love all of the games that were played! My son also likes to display his "manliness" by doing push-ups. It must be a boy thing!

    1. It's funny how the boy to man thing happens. Really fun to get a front row seat to watch them change, but sometimes kind of baffling!
