Painfully Cute

We got Katie's update!

Seriously, is she not just adorable??

These pictures are so cute they make my heart ache.

What's more, we've been getting them just like this.  Somebody cares enough to sit and edit these pictures.  Blows my mind.  While there's a tiny part of me that would like to have the 5 original photos so I could space out the new pictures a week at a time, and so that I could see more background details, it warms my heart to think of someone on the other side of the world, sitting in front of their computer selecting, rotating, cropping, and trying to portray how special my girl is.

The update indicates that she's just amazing.  It says her foster mother has made her some special "shoes" so she can get around easier and that she can go up and down stairs, climb and slide, and it active and energetic.  She can count to 10, sing, speak clearly.  She is potty trained.*  She likes toys, music, and going outside.

*The potty thing presents a packing dilemma.  I was planning on both children being in diapers.
I know that the Chinese version of potty training does not always mean the same thing as our interpretation of potty trained.  And I know that a lot of kids regress during stressful times, such as getting a new family and having your whole world turned upside down.  But it suddenly occurred to me that I could be presented with a little girl who IS, in fact, potty trained and might be very offended at the idea of diapers.

Do I:
1) pack pull ups, and hope that she doesn't object to those as being too diaperish?
2) pack training pants (and wet bags, and extra clothing)
3) pack panties
or 4) stick with the diaper idea, and if we have to, buy something else once we get there?

Once upon a time, I had a big old pile of little hand me down panties.  These would have been perfect for this situation, as I would not have had a problem with just throwing away icky accident panties.  Unfortunately, they were so tiny that the leg holes didn't fit over Hannah's prosthetic, so I think I may have passed them on.  I'll have to do a little searching to confirm or refute that.

We did not get updated measurements, so I'm hoping that my size guesses are close enough.

Regardless of the unknowns, I'm on cloud 9 with the new pictures and I can't wait to go get her!
I'm hoping to be IN CHINA two months from now.
Please pray that the rest of our paperwork process goes smoothly!

  2. Wow - love the new pictures! She is soooo cute! I would think it would make waiting even harder, but at least you know she is being loved and cared for while she waits for you.
I think I'd go with pull-ups - kinda best of both worlds, not a diaper and she can still be independent with them, but they also contain the mess, if needed.

  3. We had the same dilemma. We took pull ups and underwear with us, and our dd did indeed look at the pull ups with horror when we put them on her the first night. She had no potty accidents at all, so we just switched to all underwear.
