Swept Away book review and Kindle Fire #giveaway

I'm really enjoying reviewing the Quilts of Love series.  I like that each book has a different author and different characters, yet all the books feature a quilt.  As someone who sews, it's fun to see the wild variety of characters who also sew.

In Swept Away, Sara Jane makes a snap judgement when she meets the scruffy guy her grandmother hires to do some odd jobs around her house.  She refers to him as a "John the Baptist wannabe."

Meanwhile, Drew has serious lack of confidence issues.  He's convinced that if he asked Sara Jane out, she would laugh at him.  We're not given any backstory on why he's so bitter toward women.

Actually, my biggest beef with this book, which I enjoyed overall, is that there are a lot of things we're not given a backstory about.  Authors Laura V. Hilton and Cindy Loven could have fleshed out a few more areas, including Grandmother's love story, how Sara Jane's parents died, and what happened to Drew, aside from the death of his sister.

As the story progresses, Drew shows what a great guy he is by how he helps out with Grandmother, who is in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.  When he shaves off his facial hair, she doesn't recognize him, and thinks a burglar is trying to get into her house through the roof.  Even after she calls the police on him, he treats her with respect and care.

Although Drew and Sara Jane end up together in the end, I think they'd have a bumpy road ahead of them as they work through the circumstances in their pasts that have scarred each of them.

  1. Yes, back stories are important to round out the characters, but this sounds like an interesting story.

    1. It was. You know when you're dying for two characters to just COMMUNICATE with each other? It was one of those.
