Our St. Patrick's Day Week

How can it be another week already?  It was a short week, but still.  Seems to be going by faster with the nice weather than it does when we have rain.  Jack's even been riding his bike this week.

If you missed my More Art post, we worked on these projects this week.

Pretty sure the top one is Jack's and the bottom one is Hannah's.  I watched the holiday art project dvd to see what the Easter projects were, and neither one really spoke to me.  I guess it's time to break out the 4th grade dvd and get started on that.

Hannah and Katie were supposed to get new legs this week, but Shriners called to say they weren't ready yet.  We're looking at 2 more weeks.  Originally, they tried to schedule us to come in mid-April, and I had to go all Mama Bear on them politely explain that wasn't going to work for us, so they got us in end of March instead.  Katie's been asking to leave her leg off after naps lately, and Hannah's been leaning on things.  I really wish the process didn't take so long.  I hate to see them struggle.

Jack and Hannah started a new computer program this week.  This brings Jack up to 3 online programs since he's still working on Reading Kingdom and XtraMath.  Katie started XtraMath addition this week.  After only 4 days on the program, she's already at 22%.

Another one of our upcoming reviews is a video based program.  I thought it would be good for Jack and Hannah, but surprisingly, even Katie is getting something out of it.  I can't wait to share it with you.  Actually, I feel like the bulk of what we're working on lately is upcoming review products.  It's nice to change things up and try new stuff, but when I am saving all those pictures to share with you later, it looks like we're not doing much in the meantime!

We enjoyed corned beef on Saint Patrick's day.  I made the girls' shirts, same method as their Valentine Shirts.  I think I might do either bunnies or flowers for spring.  It's kind of an addiction.

Friday was the start of Spring Break.  The teens are off school for 11 days straight, yet Sam and Brianna are off at swim and soccer, and tomorrow Eli is going to a robotics competition with his class.

I'm torn between trying to do "light homeschool" next week and just taking the week off and giving us all the break we need.  I think a lot of moms, myself included, worry about whether or not we're doing "enough," whatever that means.  I know a break would do us good.  But surely, reading a chapter a day in our new book and having them do a few questions can't be too bad, right?  Maybe a field trip is in order...

  1. Oh yes! LOL. I am so bad about truly taking time off. We'll lighten up our load and perhaps take a day or two away from books but every time I think well we can still read... and maybe just do one page in the math books.. So I totally understand where you are coming from.

    1. We didn't do anything except computer work yesterday, since the high schoolers were off, but here we are on Saturday, and I did literature with Jack and Hannah, and Katie did spelling, lol.

    1. I was thinking something a bit closer to home, lol. Like maybe Lodi Zoo or the Jelly Belly Factory. Might you guys be interested in meeting up?

  3. I haven't taken hardly any time off this year...well..not completely. We are starting to feel a bit worn out. I am not sure if it is going to happen for us or not.

    1. Might be a downside of having the "lifestyle of learning" mindset. It's hard to just relax.

  4. I love your St. Patrick's Day shirts.
The bulk of our learning has also been review projects lately. I'm just so glad the children are enjoying the products we have. I haven't been able to take any time off recently because we took too much off in the fall and I have to make sure we have our 180 days. This is the first year we have to do paperwork with the school district, so I am a bit nervous about that. We did take today off as my oldest son showed up for a visit.

    1. Ugh. I'm so grateful we don't have district oversight. We can do whatever we want.
My kids love it when my eldest son comes for a visit! :) Last time, he brought their new puppy!
