I don't talk about the older kids as much here on the blog. Mostly to give them a bit of privacy. But my mama heart can't be silent today.
Many of you who have adopted know what it's like to have "your child" (whom you've often only seen in a photo) living on the other side of the world. You don't know if they're getting enough to eat or how they're doing, and honestly, it makes us a little crazy during the wait.
Now imagine your child, whom you nuzzled as a baby and nurtured them and watched them grow and change over the years, taking off for the other side of the world.
It's not his first trip. In fact, he put tacks into all the places he's been, courtesy of the Air Force.
But unlike adoption, where you can assume your kids are fairly safe, my boy had to practice shooting while wearing a gas mask before setting off.
The last several months, I've gotten spoiled, having him local to us again. I will miss him. I love my boy, and I admire who he's becoming. I anxiously await the day when I can post homecoming photos again. In the meantime, if the sight of a flag, or an Air Force bumper sticker makes me tear up, well, I'm not going to be ashamed. I'm proud to be the mama of an airman.
Thanks for clicking for us!
As a Canadian military wife, I get it. Praying for his safety and for your family. Blessings and love from the north...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tammy. I don't usually *worry* about him, it's more knowing he so far away. I miss the little bugger! (Who is a foot taller than me, LOL!)
DeletePraying for him and for you tonight.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteMy son is in the Australian army, I share your pain. I think about him all the time. We just had him home for a week which was lovely. The leavings never seem to get any easier though.
ReplyDeleteI'll say a prayer for your boy, Julie. :)
DeleteI can't imagine my boys being so far away and if they have it their way, they hope to always live a block away from me, as spoken by my oldest. Since we are moving, he is already scoping out a townhouse community directly behind our new place, literally behind a row of trees in our backyard!!!! LOL. My youngest is never far from me either and actually refuses to move far away, he always says that the miltary people are wonderful but he would freak out if he had to do something like that, and I know my oldest feels the same too. They both respect the sacrifice people like your son make, but they just can't leave me. Since birth both have been attached to my hip, total and complete Mama's boys. I tell them all the time, you know your going to get married and their reply is, not for a long time... And they only plan on marrying a girl who adores me...oh the love of sons!!! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI so feel the pain in your post, to let our babies go is so hard. If its up to my DH, he would love to get pregnant again, has always wanted that as we always have dreamt of more boys!!! Looking back, that is my biggest regret not having lots of boys when I could! Boys ARE AMAZING!!! IF I had been well enough, I would have only adopted our one girl and had and adopted a boat load of boys!!! Boys Rock! :-)
Boys are special. Yesterday we visited a new church, and we sat behind a family with 6 stair step boys, and I was thinking, "Wow! What a lot of boys!" only to realize... duh, I have 6 boys, too! LOL!
DeleteYou DO have a ton of boys and to me that is more precious then anything on earth!!! Oh how I'd just long to have ONE more!!! Sheesh, I better be careful or I might talk myself into it, wouldn't take much to do that right now!!! LOL DH says I just am a boy Mama and frankly he is SO right! Frilly girl stuff, cute girl things...well I enjoy being a girl, but raising one is different. I am active, love fitness and enjoy boy things, graciously God at least allowed our daughter to be the exact same way, thankfully! To have a feminine girl would be misery for me, but luckily she loves to look cute, like me, but is rough and tumble like me too! I may be in my 4th decade of life, but People tell me I act, look, and dress like a Teen or 20 yr old! But hey I cant help it I like their clothes!!!! LOL
DeleteI love girly, I love pink, I love dressing Hannah & Katie. But when I need a snuggle, Jack is my go to. :D Most of my boys are very affectionate.
DeleteAlso Praying for his safety and your peace of mind.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kristine!
DeletePraying for your precious boy. May G-d bless the people who protect us by serving in the military.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jennifer!
DeleteHi Shecki. I am Tracy Wilson, Heather's step-mom. I have spent a lot of time with Zach over the past several months, as he has almost been living with us! We are missing him too, and pray for his safe return to you, your family, Heather, Brayden and Heather's family! He is a great kid (although I know he isn't a kid anymore)! He is courteous, and respectful and we enjoy having him around! Looking forward to meeting you someday.
ReplyDeleteNice to "meet" you, Tracy! When he gets home, we'll have to make dinner plans. :)
DeleteThat would be great! Looking forward to it!
