Up for review today is Mary Connealy's Tried & True, book 1 of the Wild at Heart series.
A grief stricken father convinces his 3 daughters to fight in the Civil War to avenge their brother's death. Somehow, no one catches on to the fact that they're women. After the war, Pa manipulates them into staking adjoining homestead claims, using their service years exemption. His grand plan is to "buy" the claims from his daughters after their homesteading time is up to make himself one large ranch. They're still masquerading as women--in order to take the service exemption that they earned fighting in the war.
Along comes land agent Aaron Masterson, who immediately discovers that "Kyle" and her "brothers" are all 3 women. He wants to protect Kylie, the britches-wearing damsel in distress, from whoever is trying to get her off her land. Is it the powerful Gage Coulter, who needs the water hole she's claimed for his cattle? Or someone with more sinister motives? And how will Aaron and Kylie handle their growing attraction for one another when they have such different dreams for their lives?
I've read Mary Connealy's series The Kincaid Brides series, so I'm predicting books 2 and 3 will feature Shannon and Bailey, Kylie's sisters, falling in love. While Tried and True was a little far-fetched and predictable, it was a fluffy, easy read. I'm guessing Brianna will enjoy this one.
Don't miss the first book in Mary Connealy's Wild at Heart series. In Tried & True, Mary is back with her signature humor and heartfelt story-telling.
