Bug Excavation!

What happens in a 2 student homeschool when one student is sick?  Mom gets out a cool activity and for the healthy student to work on!  Shh!  Don't tell him it's educational!

Eli was under the weather recently, so I pulled out an awesome Real Bug Dig Kit for Jack.  It comes with the excavating tool, a brush, a magnifying glass, and a bug shaped digging block.

This is another fun product from Discover With Dr. Cool.  If you missed our prior Dr. Cool review, be sure to check out Gold Panning, as well.

Jack started digging.  Well, scratching, really.  Soon he saw something!

What could it be??

Each of the 3 bugs embedded in the dig stone are encased in acrylic, so you won't accidentally lop of a leg.  We did dump the tray a few times during the excavating process, to keep the debris from building up and sloshing over the side of the tray.  If you have mild weather, this would be a good outdoor activity, but honestly, cleanup wasn't bad at all.

Once all 3 bugs were dug out and rinsed off, Jack read about them in the info guide.  The bugs are:  Scorpion, Spiny Spider, and Fortune Beetle.  There's also an activity book in the kit, with mazes and puzzles and such.

Jack carried them around for days, showing them to all his siblings, and "creeping" them along me when I least expected it.  They've achieved a place of honor in his canopic jar on his dresser now.

Jack gives this project a thumbs up.  The Real Bug Dig Kit is currently selling for $11.99, which is a great price for so much fun and learning!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
