Why Do We Call It Christmas? DVD #giveaway

It's time to start thinking about Christmas, and what better way than learning the origins of our Christmas traditions?

Our family got to review Why Do We Call It Christmas? a DVD from the What's In The Bible? series, featuring puppet Buck Denver, from the talented Phil Vischer, Creator of the wildly popular VeggieTales.

Check out the trailer to see what a fun video this is:

Not very many Christmas movies feature scenes from Rome and India!  Or slip in interesting facts like there are more Christians in India than in Canada.

The characters in the movie are trying to get to Buck's Christmas party, and they have questions about various aspects of our modern Christmas celebration along the way.

I particularly appreciated the mention of Hanukkah, and the fact that it's been around longer than Christmas, and that Jesus himself celebrated Hanukkah.

Also interesting was the idea that our Christmas tree reminds us of a victory over Thor's oak.

Jack liked the Upside Down Kingdom story told with the Popsicle stick theater.  Eli latched on to the "Missle-toe" explanation that was totally off.  Personally, I had no idea there even was an international symbol for pawn shops, let alone that it originated with the Saint Nicholas giving dowries to 3 poor sisters.  Fascinating!

Having been to China and seen first hand the crazy capacity of various modes of transportation, I got a chuckle out of Monkey saying, "We can fit a whole village in a rickshaw!"  I believe it!
