Our Week - with Progress on the New Room

We had a good first week back to school after our holiday break.

This week, we did a round of geography flash cards, and I was disheartened to discover that the boys have forgotten a lot of the countries they used to know.

We'll be doing more map work to make up for that, as well as playing with blocks and puzzles for some sneaky extra reinforcement.

In addition to spelling and grammar, we've added the writing program Rockets, Radar & Robotics.  This is not a review, just something I thought my boys would be interested in.

We've been doing a lot of work with mixing and blending colors.

We also learning about lighter and darker shades of a color.

This was an exercise where the boys were to use lighter shades near the source of light, and darker shades farther away.

This week, Paul put up the door in the new bedroom.

Then he painted the ceiling.

Then he painted 3 of the walls a nice, light blue.

The other wall will be paneled.

Eli continues to make new creations from his K'nex.  I don't mind if the boys want to build or draw while I read aloud, as long as they're quietly attentive.

This started out as a vehicle from directions, but after finishing, he modified it several times, until it became quite different.

In another art lesson we worked on using monochrome colors, warm colors, and complimentary colors.

Jack goofed on the directions for one of his boxes.  Fortunately, the paint cards are from last year, when Brianna was homeschooled, so we have 3 sets of them.  I got out the other card for him to do his complimentary colors box, and decided to sit and paint the flowers with the boys.

This week, we learned more about Islam and the Early Middle Ages in history, and the heart and blood in science.  Next week, the boys are supposed to start learning to play chess!

    1. Aw, thanks! I keep thinking next year is going to be really weird with just Jack at home, but I guess I shouldn't get ahead of myself. I'm enjoying our school days the way they are. Especially with Hannah home until February.

    1. :D This doesn't even count the 2 dentist appointments (which my amazing husband took the kids to, because he's awesome) and all the driving around that the teens require for sports and socialization, lol.
