How to use a Wordless Book in your Homeschool

We recently got the opportunity to review a wordless book.  When I signed up, I was thinking how great it would be to tell the story of Noah to Hannah and Katie.

And that's very true, of course.  But the homeschooler in me got to thinking...

What about using a wordless book to have your older children narrate a story to you?

What about giving them a writing assignment to "add words" (not IN the book of course!) to the story, or for a particular 2 page spread?  Or to imagine they're a character in that wordless book, and write about their experience?

This particular wordless book, Noah, is a beautiful retelling of a story we all know, so it was great for checking their comprehension of the details, such as, "And how long did Noah and his sons work building the ark?"  Or asking vocabulary questions like, "What is that pile of rocks called after they got off the boat?"

We really enjoyed this book, and had good discussions while looking over the beautiful illustrations by author Mark Ludy.  The story of Noah's Ark is such rich fodder for the imagination!  You can ask your kids what logistical problems they think Noah might have encountered, and how they could be resolved.

One of the cute features of this book is that Squeakers the Mouse is on each page, so you can make a game out of finding him with your child.  I couldn't find them at first; I had to ask the kids to help me.  Sam and Eli got into it, and Eli found the first few mice.

Are you ready to win your very own copy of Noah?  Just comment below telling me your favorite animal that was on the ark, or who you would share this richly illustrated storybook with.  Giveaway is closed.

This beautiful hardback 64 page book is also available on Amazon, if you just can't wait.  (affiliate link)

This really is a lovely resource to bring the story to life for my children.
