Gemstone Dig Kit

My boys were so excited to tear into another Discover With Dr. Cool kit!  It was pointed out to me that because Jack did the last one by himself while Eli was sick, this time Eli should get to take point and do most of it.

The Gemstone Dig Kit is similar to the Real Bug Dig Kit that Jack did, in that they both come with a fun shaped block with 3 items embedded inside, and a dig tool, brush, magnifier, guide, and activity book.

Jack worked his way through the activity book while I read aloud to the boys from the Adventure Guide and Eli chipped away at the digging brick.

As I mentioned last time, it's a slightly messy activity, so we use a tray to keep it contained, but it's really not that bad.  I think I dumped the tray once in the middle of the action.

Poke!  Eli made a hole all the way through!  Although the box says ages 6-12, Eli is 13, and really enjoyed it.  He went through a rock phase when he was younger, so he already knew some of the material presented in the guidebook.

Jack and Eli are brushing the debris out.

Without being asked to, Jack worked his way through the maze, dot to dot, hidden pictures, and word search.

This neat activity sells for $11.99.  This is a good kit to have on hand for a rainy day activity, a study of geology, or an unexpected birthday gift.  Discover With Dr. Cool has a wide variety of kits to explore, including shark teeth, fossils, crystal growing, and more.

Hey, look!  I found something!  Eli hit the tiger's eye stone first.

Here's all 3 stones:  Jack is holding the amethyst, which is barely purple, and Eli is holding the crystal and tiger's eye.

This is actually our third kit from Discover With Dr. Cool.  The first one we did was Panning For Gold.
