Our ingredients come from Costco, because that's where Paul does the bulk of our weekly shopping. Yes, I really am that lucky.
You need:
4 cups plain Cheerios
2 cups cashews (you can use peanuts, or even mixed nuts if you prefer)
2 cups chocolate chips (if you're serving toddlers, you may want to use M&Ms to avoid mess, but Katie, who is almost 3 does fine with choc chips)
2 cups dried fruit (I usually use raisins, but this time, we had craisins, so I did one cup raisins, 1 cup craisins.)
Ordinarily, I have the kids pour each item into a gallon sized ziplock bag, which we then seal and shake to mix. However, we were out of bags this time, so we used a bowl.
I serve our trail mix in 1/2 cup portions.
Our trail mix makes a great snack for game playing (game review coming soon!). We also like to take it to the park with us (but use M&Ms for park mix in warm weather).
I like this blend, because the kids think they're getting a huge treat, but it's not "junk food." Enjoy!
