Homeschool Weekly Wrap Up #8

Okay, so this first picture has nothing to do with homeschooling.  But it was too stinking cute not to share.  I suppose we could call it "nature studies" or something, but really, she's just following Brianna around, doing what she does.

And how is the government shutdown affecting homeschoolers?  I couldn't print the food pyramid form I wanted for our wellness program.  Humph!

I learned a new word this week.  Pintastrophe.

Oh, these are lovely paintings and all.  The kids had fun making them.

But it was supposed to be a brown painted tree trunk, then fingerpainted dots of red, orange, and yellow for the leaves.

My kids always seem to have their own interpretation.  And in art, that's fine.  I can live with that.  But sometimes I feel like I'm living a Cake Wrecks life in a Pinterest world.  This is not our first pin-flop.

This week I remembered we have Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown UNO® (affiliate link) which provided lots of entertainment.

Jack doing his "Walk Like An Egyptian" pose.  I had the boys try to stand against the wall in the same pose as ancient Egyptian art.

Again, not sure what this has to do with homeschool, but I caught Eli reading a very tiny newspaper.

Got potatoes?

We learned that Egyptians used seals for stamping.

So we created potato seals.

Only, instead of smooshing them into warm wax, we decided to stamp Christmas wrapping paper instead.

Still loving the Fundanoodle paper!

Katie painted using the seal I cut.

And this is what happens when you turn the toddler loose with a potato covered in green paint.  You scrub green paint out of your carpet.  (One would think I'd know better after 2 decades of parenting, but it appears not.)

Bad art week??  His trees aren't coming out exactly the way he had hoped.

But he seemed to recover just fine when it was time to play with our new balance.

I can't get into the details on this yet, but suffice it to say, we had fun with it!

And while we had the marbles out, we exposed Luke to a new sensory experience.

Believe it or not, this is homeschooling.  I love it.

  1. The government shut down meant my kiddo couldn't read the first site on her Lewis and Clark web quest since it was a .gov site. Looks like you had a fun week!

    1. I was looking at a http://www.southwestindian.com/ catalog the other night and saw a really neat looking Sacajawea DVD. I am looking forward to that part of our history when we get there.
