If your sense of humor runs to the punny, you may enjoy A Stitch in Crime. For example, when Thea walks the dog and discovers a clue, she worries that she will be "in the doghouse" with the police detective for disturbing evidence. Or the way she refers to needing "a little Moxie" to figure it out. Moxie: force of character, determination or nerve -- also the name of the small dog that helped her discover the clue.
I didn't realize when I started the book that author Cathy Elliott has other books with the main character Thea James. There were times in the story where I felt like there were references to things I should have known, but didn't, so I checked to see if this was a "book 2" of sorts.
The characters with a British background seem selective about what they retain from their mother tongue. Gram uses words like bobbies and biscuits for police and cookies, but goes with the American "TV" instead of the British "telly."
Thea has her hands full trying to find out who attacked Mary-Alice, stole a jeweled brooch, and did a smash & grab that threatens to ruin the quilt show she's trying so hard to put on. Along the way, she must figure out who is not what they seem, and why her friend is acting so strangely.
Don’t miss the newest Quilts of Love book, A Stitch in Crime by Cathy Elliott. Thea's first quilt show begins to fall apart at the seams. Will she be able to piece the mystery together and save the town’s investment in the quilt show before another attack happens . . . with far worse results.
