Medical Stuff

Just checking in quickly to give an update on how things are going with referrals and such so far.

Dressed up for first Dr Appt

7/3  Took Katie and Luke to their first stateside doctor's appointment for a general check up, shots, bloodwork, etc.

7/5   Dropped off vials of poop (ahem, stool samples) at the lab.

7/8   Doctor's office calls to say Luke has Giardia. Find pharmacy that can compound his Rx, order, pick up, and start meds.
Katie and Hannah had appointments at Shriners.

7/9   Luke had an appointment at Urology.  (more on this later)

Reminded me of the statues on Shamian Island.
This was taken after his urology appointment.

We've received 6 referral forms in the mail in the last week.  Next week, our appointments so far include:

Monday - test fitting Hannah's wheelchair (see here and here).  We started the process for a chair in November, went in for measurements in January, and it sounds like we might actually bring one home soon.  I'm glad it wasn't an emergency!

Wednesday - back to Shriners to 1) change casts, and 2) start the prosthetic process

Thursday - Our first Post-Placement visit with a new social worker, as well as Hannah's first day of school.  Which means a change of schedule for our household.

The following week, we have:

1) cast change for Katie at Shriners
2) MIND Institute for Luke
3) and then Hannah has her back to school physical.  Yeah, I know, a week after school starts.  I'm just waiting for the school to give me crap about that one.  Her doc is out on maternity leave, this was the best I could do.
4) The next day, Katie and Luke go to the dentist.

So far in August, we have more cast changes, an appointment with the hand surgeon, and Luke's Speech Therapy evaluation.

I have a call out to Alta Regional.  They should have to evaluate him within 45 days of contact.  I have yet to hear from the ENT clinic, but we did get a paper referral for them, so I expect I'll be hearing from them soon.

Is it any wonder I threaten to burst into tears whenever Paul mentions that he's going back to work soon?

  2. That is a SWARM of appointments!! When Paul goes back to work, will you bring the whole homeschool crew with you to appointments, how do you work that out? I've done all my 5 before, but it's not my favorite, at least their ages!!

    1. No. The teens can stay home. It will be a bit of a juggle who will be where, since Brianna has camp this coming week, Samuel has football practice every morning, and Hannah starts school Thursday. But we'll figure it out as we go, I guess. I think I'll be pressing Eli into Baby Helper Duty on appointments for a while.
