By the time we left China, I got him to hold his bottle. That was the extent of his ability to self feed.
Luke began feeding therapy on August 23. He's had 7 sessions with his sweet therapist, and we've worked really hard in between times.
This is huge. He's FINALLY putting something in his own mouth, and you can HEAR him munching on them! The boy is chewing.
We still have a ways to go. It's ONLY these particular Gerber Graduates Lil' Crunchies that he can pick up on his own. I'm hoping we can transition him to puffs, but he still has no pincer grasp, so those are going to be difficult for him. His therapist had him working with Cheerios yesterday, though, and those are even tinier, so I have hope. (She gets his hands nice & sticky with yogurt, so he doesn't have to grab them, he just has to touch them.)
You truly have no idea how excited I am to be able to put him in his chair and give him something he can feed himself while I'm putting the finishing touches on dinner, or dishing up plates. Shoot, I might even get to enjoy my food while it's warm sometimes now!
Thanks for clicking for us!

ReplyDeleteHow very, very exciting to see him reach this milestone. Great work Luke, and Mama too! I was impressed near the end of the video when he even used his other hand to catch some food that was falling out.
ReplyDeleteYes, that makes me happy, too. He shows a real hand dominance, so any time I see the other paw in action, it's a good thing. :)
