The Otter, The Spotted Frog, and The Great Flood GIVEAWAY

The Otter, The Spotted Frog & The Great Flood: A Creek Indian Story, written by Gerald Hausman and illustrated by Ramon Shiloh is a Creek Indian story for kids age 4 and up.  Wisdom Tales Press offers books with an international flavor, several of which look quite interesting!

Interestingly, this Native American legend is one of many flood legends from all around the world.  Although the story contradicts what our family personally believes, it was still an interesting story to read, and when we study Native American history, we'll be reading it again within that context.

The story was about Listener (hence the hand to the ear) and how he listened to the song of the Spotted Frog and was saved from the Great Flood.

Even Sam, who is 15, came to sit and listen to the story.  The Buffalo Chief in the book was mean to the Spotted Frog, and didn't listen to him.  In fact, he threw him into the fire four times!

But Spotted Frog was right, and the rains came down.  See all the rain coming down?

The animals who didn't prepare paddled and paddled, but it was no use.  See us paddling?

Jack thought it was interesting how the girl otter kept on changing into different creatures.  Hannah asked if she could take the book to bed with her tonight, so I know she enjoyed it, too.

This hardcover book with dust jacket has a retail price of $17.95, but you can enter to WIN a copy!

  1. I don't, but we were just reading the Sign of the Beaver and learned about the Native American flood story. I'd like to learn about it in more detail.

  3. Shecki, I looked for your "Amazon" link to buy things yesterday, but couldn't find it. Is that still something I should be doing when I order from them?
Thanks--really enjoying your blog despite my family of only 1 kid. ;-)
