Sunday Snapshot: I've been sewing

Autumn is in the air.  We had our first rain today.  Thunder and lightning, too, but it waited until after I'd gotten some pictures of my China babies.

The girls' pants came from zulily.com and I made their pumpkin shirts.  It feels really good to get back into the sewing room.  I'm almost finished with Katie and Luke's bedroom sewing, too.

You may notice that Katie is still wearing slippers.  Don't get me started.  See, the length of her prosthetic foot is the same as the length of the brace on her other foot, but the brace is much wider.  So, all the cute shoes I saved from Hannah?  Yeah, not working out.  I'm going to have to take her somewhere cheap and get a pair of size 6 and a pair of size 7 in the same shoes.  I'm hoping we can eventually get her a wider prosthetic foot at a future visit so we can at least buy shoes in pairs from that point on.

They're so cute.  Well...

...in carefully staged settings, they're cute.  The rest of the time, they look like this.
Downright scary.

Paul had the boys helping him tear up the yard this morning.

They created 1200# of debris that he and Eli hauled to the dump.

Even Jack Jack was hauling rock.

Eli takes a break.

And this guy?  Not so much into manual labor, but he's gotten a lot more helpful inside the house since he's been homeschooling.  It's been nice having him around.

    1. I'm fortunate, the girls are pretty good about letting me take pictures. My older kids are not so patient about it, lol.

    1. Thank you! Peasant tops are pretty quick & easy. Instant gratification makes me want to sew more.

  3. Such cute outfits!

Is it possible to wrap the prosthesis with something to make it thicker to match the brace? (Or would that make walking on it too difficult?)

You might also see if you can find a 'shoe exchange' online- either so you can find someone to trade half a pair with, or at least give away the half of each pair you don't need- I know some people with limb differences have used the internet to connect with 'soulmates' who are missing the opposite leg/foot who they split shoes with via mail; it's possible there are sites for people who need two different sized shoes too.

Also- Nordstrom will sell different sizes to you; but that might be too expensive for a growing kid.

    1. Thanks for the ideas! I had heard that about Nordstrom's, but I think it's only if the feet are two or more sizes apart. Katie needs a 6 and a 7, so I'm not sure if they'd do that. I'll have to check next time we get up to the mall.

  6. What super cute outfits! I love the tops. What pattern is that? Ugh, the braces and shoe dilemma. Can you find someone with an old SMO in that size for her prosthetic foot?

    1. It's a simplicity pattern.

As far as shoes go, this is temporary. Next time we go to Shriners, I'll have Mr Rick order her a wider foot, and then we should be okay. We're getting by with slippers for now, but we're going to need to get a "pair" (2 pairs, but whatever) of shoes she can wear outside in the meantime. I'll just have to get over my Shoe Diva thing for now and only have one outside pair. At least until we get to the holidays. Then all bets are off. ;)
