Our Week - The Late One Due to Computer Problems

I normally post Our Week around Saturday, but my computer was at the "spa" Friday to Monday, so it's late this week.

We tried the kangaroo jerky Annaliese sent us.  (I kept waiting for Sam to be home, and then forgetting when he was here.)  Hannah says it tastes like wood.

All the sports at the high school my kids go to honor their seniors at one of the last games.  This week was senior night for Wrestling.  It was a really special evening.  And his speech was hilarious, of course.  Did you catch my post on Kids and Sports this week?

Katie is almost finished with the cutest handwriting book ever.

Our plants are continuing to grow.  I need to thin the basil.  I haven't had the heart to pluck those little shoots yet, but we need to do it soon, before they're too tangled together.

We did animal reports this week.  I told the kids when we went to the library that they had to get one book about an animal (and whatever other books they wanted).  We used these books to answer some questions:

It's primitive, but I hope to do some more "research" type work with them.

It's not a Valentine craft!  Whew!  I imagine my readers getting tired of all the Valentine projects we've been doing lately (and I have another one up my sleeve!).  Nope.  This time, it's lanterns.

For Chinese New Year!  I'll share more about our CNY celebrations later.  Gotta love a 15 day holiday.  Even a slacker mom like me can hit that.

We learned about pollenators in Botany this week.  Neither of the kids could remember the word for a butterfly's nectar straw, so I came up with an impromptu craft to help them remember.

In their defense, I think Brianna was still homeschooling the last time we raised butterflies.  Maybe we'll do that again next year.  But now they remember the word PROBOSCIS.

We watched a couple of videos that went along nicely with our study of early American history.  One was Pups of Liberty - The Dog-claration of Independence from Izzit.  Do you know about Izzit?  They have streaming educational videos.  Free.  Which is my favorite price.

The other one we watched was one of the Drive Thru History movies.  I've seen them as DVDs, we have a couple that came as incentives for renewing with HSLDA, but RightNow Media has a bunch of them streaming online!  We have RightNow Media access as part of our SchoolhouseTeachers.com membership.  We watched Boston's Heritage.

A little surprise package showed up for Jack this week!  We're reviewing the Faith Builders Bible, which has cool Lego dioramas pictured inside.

We spent another morning at Shriners this week.  Both girls had plaster casts made to mold new legs for them.  We go back in a couple more weeks for a test fit.

We're going to be setting aside most of our regular curriculum for a little while, so we can try out some other programs.  We've had a heavy social studies and science focus this year, and we're going to be delving deeper into language arts instead for a bit.  I'm excited about these review products, and looking forward to having Jack and Hannah in the same English and Literature programs so we can all work together.

I love, that you are so laid back (or that's how it seems). Your kids always look so happy, filed with love and knowledge.
