More Art

One of my biggest regrets as a homeschooler, as a mother even, is all the years that there were no art projects in our house.  Very rarely did my older children get to experience anything I thought might get messy.  I was wrong.  So wrong.

I can't change the past.  But like the tired Maya Angelo quote, "When you know better, do better," I can try to ensure that my younger kids get plenty of time with a paintbrush and much more access to a wide variety of art materials.  With that in mind, any time I see an opportunity to review art supplies, I usually apply.

Okay, so funny thing.  When I first received our new watercolor set, I didn't even realize there was a second layer of paints underneath the first one!

There they are!  If you caught my recent post on Art Supplies, you know we've been blessed with some new watercolor paper and paintbrushes.  So when the chance to review a set of watercolor tablets came up, it seemed like a perfect match!

For our test project, I decided to recreate one of the pieces we made about year ago.

We used masking tape to mark out sections on our watercolor paper,

and then we painted those sections different colors.

You can see from my project that the watercolor tablet set produces vibrant, rich colors.

After the paint dried, we removed the tape to reveal crisp, white lines underneath.  In retrospect, we used bristol board last time, and had no problems with the paper peeling when we removed the tape.

This nice, watercolor paint set includes a brush and a tube of white paint for mixing, in addition to the 24 pre-mixed colors.

My students and I are pleased with our new paints and look forward to many more projects with them.

  1. I love the crisp clean lines that this project makes. It would tie in nicely with our math unit on triangles too.
