Safari Park day

Katie's sleep pose made me laugh this morning.

The wall behind her crib is mirrored, and it looked like she was reaching for a friend.

My smiley guy, before his fit at breakfast.

We were going to be out in the hot sun for a few hours, so I put hats on the kids. Katie was Not Pleased about that.

First was the drive through safari, which we took a tram through.

We saw lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

Then it was time to walk around the rest of the park.

We spent the day with new friends.

Look at those parrots!  They were so vibrant and beautiful.

The koalas are so stinking cute. For a fee, you can have your picture taken with one. I was going to do it, but we didn't have small bills, and they didn't make change!  Bummer. How many times in life do you get a chance to take a picture petting a koala?

Koalas spend 18-20 hours a day sleeping or resting. What a life!

Rare to see them out of the trees, this guy was pacing around.

Pandas!  The panda house was totally packed when we were here last time, so it was really nice to get the chance to linger and watch them this time.

Behind my head is a red panda. They look kind of like a lemur. There was nothing between him and us. No fence, no glass, nothing.

Now he looks like he's contemplating jumping onto Paul's hat. That would have really freaked Katie out. She didn't like the animals. The baby lemur jumping around behind glass totally freaked her out.

This guy paced back and forth right on the other side of the glass from us. I had to turn Katie's stroller away from him. He was so beautiful!

Melting family picture with tiger butt in the background.

As we were leaving, we saw these guys, out. Some people were even petting them. I got Katie's stroller about 3' from them before she decided that was enough. They were well trained.  Their handler could make them hop up on a stump or get down. He even put his hat on one, who tolerantly popped out from under it.

Tomorrow is Pearl Market day, and then Tuesday we visit Shamian Island. We had a thunderstorm here a little bit ago.
