Luke Graduates From Early Intervention

Three of Luke's 4 therapists came out last week to commemorate the end of his time with Early Intervention.  When a special needs child turns 3, they transition to services provided by the school district.  Luke is 3 now, and we're hoping to have his district services nailed down soon (tomorrow, actually!).

These ladies, and Luke's wonderful feeding therapist, have been working with him for the last year.  While it has been discouraging to me that Luke never reached any of the goals they set for him last August, these guys have been so patient.  They came out, week after week, and sat on the floor and played with Luke.  H, on the right, was his physical therapist.  He screamed through many of their sessions together (don't get me wrong; he threw impressive fits for the other ladies, too, but PT seems to be a special kind of misery for Luke).  H was always very gracious about his behavior.

Since aging out of EI is related to a child's birthday, the ladies brought cupcakes, and we sang Happy Birthday.

Hannah helped with the blowing out part.

While he obviously wasn't crazy about the cap & gown nonsense above, he downed the cupcake in about 4 bites.  Anything that involves food can't be all bad, in Luke's opinion.

Hoping to have some news about Lukey's preschool plans for you soon.

  1. I could have easily got our girl major services, but in home didnt work for us. Peoples perfumes nearly killed us too!!! Speech and preschool are what we still currently do. We are finally moving to temp housing tomorrow as our home wont be done to the end of the year sometime. All of us are already getting sick cleaning the unit, which by majority standards would be clean. But for our entire family, including my unbiological, secretly biological daughter LOL, who shares, so far, my ENTIRE medical history, she is going to be deathly sick along with the rest of us! :-( We are in the minority of people who live completely natural, unscented, organic and super duper clean. People walk into our home and hate to leave because its so homey, but ridiculously clean with the best air ever. :-) The people who bought our current home are totally in love with it and love how clean every nook and cranny is. Meanwhile, I tell them the place is dirty to us now, as moving stuff is kicking up dust hidden who knows where, but its left us all with sore throats, Etc. I got so fed up with the stuff stored under our steps, I took 90 percent of it and just donated it! Wow, did that feel great!!! We are deciding to up our criteria for the new place too and are ordering paint for allergy sufferers and intend to seal ALL carpets, flooring, and cabinets with a special product to eliminate all off gassing. With new construction, its a life saver we hear for people like us. Hubby also says, we will do a complete disposal of ALL things upon moving in that don't meet natural criteria and replace the items, if possible. He's taken my get rid of everything not necessary and has run with it, unloading tons and tons of stuff. Its been really eye opening how much we have gotten rid of by now, aprox. 40 plus vans full, and we arent even hoarders!!!! Yikes! Seriously neat knicks we are, I even got rid of my wedding, prom dresses. It just felt like time and figured It would be nice to give it to someone to wear again instead of it rotting in storage! :-) Its hard to believe how many momentos and things we held on to and how freeing to take these things and give them to others who can use them. I SO look forward to forging ahead with less, all the way around!!! Yay! So happy to hear how Luke is doing too!

    1. Off gassing is awful, isn't it? We have a new subdivision going in behind our house, and on the warm days, I smell all the treated lumber when we open the windows.

    2. I am DREADING this move, and all the construction smells! I know in my heart we need to do this, but I just want to be on the other side of this long drawn out process. I expect us to be sick for years, but hope to be spared the bulk of it with these new paints, I pray. Just always SO tough to move, but am looking forward to all the junk gone.

    3. You've done so much to prepare for it! I'm sure it will go well. I'm curious, since you live naturally, do you use essential oils?

    4. No, we dont use essential oils as anything " fragrant" would kill us. LOL We are renting a townhome that is pet free but wow, the person there before us loved potporri and I've been sick all day smelling the remnants! The place is super clean, but still hubby and sons went in and washed the place down and steamed cleaned carpets with vinegar and water...and it still smells! Ugh! I am resorting to cooking stuff hoping it will dull the stinch, but tomorrrow, well later today now as its past 4 am and Im still up, Im already feeling, Im gonna be sick. My sinuses, lungs, nasal passages are inflamed bad! We have till Thursday to get out of here, so by this weekend, im gonna be on my back trying to remind myself WHY im doing this!!!!!! I am so over our current house, but am going to be homesick for stability. I hate limbo and its my families reality, again...and it doesn't help that I am a veteran of moving and new construction. But seriously, people my age should be done moving! My brother swears everytime I move wont be the last, I hope this time we are DONE!!! 14 times in 22 years! I am sick of it, literally and figuratively!!! No one should move this much and we arent a military family! LOL

    5. I think you might be surprised how much good quality essential oils could benefit you. Sounds like Purification oil (which helps eliminate smells!) would be especially useful! Hope you feel better soon!

  2. This is encouraging news I think! Loved seeing him stuff the cupcake in his mouth. I remember not too long ago that he did not feed himself at all. God be praised!

    Warmly,
    Kate

    1. Yes, he's highly motivated by food. He's got a long way to go yet, but feeding is the one area that he has made progress in.
