Snowflake Dresses, a look back

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I bought some matching snowflake plaid shirts and dresses.

The kids wore them to a Christmas party for the fire department Paul volunteered with at the time.

Back in the days when we had 6 kids, 0-10 years old.

My "matchy" thing goes way back.

At the time, I did not know how long lasting these particular garments would be.

The older kids aren't delighted to see these--again--but they're good sports.  Jack wore his just long enough for a picture, but Bri kept hers on through presents.

Brianna is the only one of the kids in both the 2001 group photo and the 2014 photo.  There have been other pictures down through the years, but we lost a lot of photos in a computer crash.

I'm at the point now where I'm not sure what to do with the littlest pieces of our collection.  I gave away our small dresses as Brianna outgrew them years ago, and ended up kicking myself later, as I wished that I'd had them for Hannah and Katie in prior years.  Luke wore the 2T shirt this year, so I really ought to get rid of the size 18 months shirt, since I know that our family is complete.  But there's a tiny part of me that wants to hold on to it to pass down to Zach & Heather's kids when the time comes.  Crazy, right?

Anyway, I just thought some of you might like to take a glimpse back with me.  I can't believe how well these have worn.

    1. I think I will. The toddler sized dresses went to Meg's girls, Mary and Melissa, so I know they got good use out of them, too. :)

  2. They are good sports :-) I am always thrilled when I pull out something I loved on one of my older children and realize that I'll get to enjoy it all over again with the younger ones.

    1. On the other hand, there were some things that I got so tired of seeing, I passed them on to friends, rather than have them cycle down to the next sibling, lol. ;) I guess when it's once a year, it's different from twice a week for months on end.

  3. There have been a few special things I've kept through the years and I was so glad. We thought we were "done" twice and I regretted getting rid of things. Another mom of many shared with me once, "The Lord provided for these, He'll provide for more if he sends them to us." So I let most of it go. I hate letting go of the memories. But I suppose that is why we have photos! :-)

    1. Funny how God laughs at us when we think something significant in our plan, like our family being complete.

  4. Hey,

What a great pictures! I love the idea of matching PJ's. We get Pj's but they aren't matching. Haha!

I would totally hold onto anything I could. Why not pass them down?

    Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. I used to save everything, but after a few kids, I realized it's better to just hold on to the special things and pass the rest of it on to someone else who can use it. Stuff always seems to make it's way to us, so it's nice to pay it forward when we can. My problem is deciding what's special enough to hang on to, and what isn't! Since we're not planning on any more kids ("EVER" says Paul), it's easier to be ruthless and imagine other people getting as much enjoyment out of them as we did. :)
