Our Week - School is Over!

Finally!  The last week of school!

The teens seem to be tired of school.  I keep finding them crashed out in the afternoons.

I guess the end of the year is exhausting for all of us.  I know I was dragging some days.  Feels so good to be done!

Josiah needed t-shirts, and this one tickled our funny bone when we saw it.

Sometimes I download my pictures and think, "What the heck??  When did they get a hold of my cell phone??"

I think it started as a selfie session, and Josiah and his nostrils photobombed her.  Things seem to have deteriorated from there.

Last day of school!  These two, along with Jack and Hannah are off at camp in Nevada now.  The teens as workers, the kids as campers.  I'm guessing they're having an amazing time.  They were all really looking forward to it.

I've been bored with doing the girls' hair the same way every single day, so I've tried a couple "different" things.  Brianna stopped in her tracks when she saw Katie and said, "Moosen!"  I'm guessing that's a no to this 'do.

Ever since the last time we finger painted, the kids have asked pretty much every day if we could do it again.  This week, I said yes.

We've now mixed red and blue, and blue and yellow.  Next time we'll do yellow and red.

Another hands-on activity this week was play dough.  We're using Crayola's Model Magic, since it's soft and easy to work with.  The kids sculpt while I read aloud.

Jack and Hannah cleaned out their binders before leaving for camp.  I had them keep our states and presidents, since we're not done with those yet, but everything else, they were permitted to toss.  Being that we have strong pack rat tendencies, both chose to save some special things.  Hannah asked to keep her thrashed empty spelling folder and fill it with her favorite art works and worksheets.  Jack tossed most of it, but kept a few things related to his interests in the pocket of his binder.

As far as homeschooling goes, we managed to finish 28 weeks of a 30 week curriculum, with a LOT of extras added in.  I'm not going to try to do those two weeks over the summer.  We'll start with those when we pick things up again in August.

We do have a few things we'll need to do over the summer for reviews.  Mostly online programs and art.  Katie will continue working in Math and Spelling and Handwriting.  (She's finished with her kindergarten handwriting book, and is working on a first grade handwriting book for a review.)

After Jack and Hannah left for camp, we all made an effort to interact with Katie more so she wouldn't get lonely.  Josiah painted with her, which she loved.

In fact, the next day, she asked to paint again, and said, "This one is Josiah, and this one is me."

Aww!  Melt my heart!

She's also been playing with the Safari Toobs bucket, and was asking questions about penguins, so we sat down and watched March of the Penguins (which is a little darker than I remembered!) together and I made her some blue colored rice for a penguin habitat.

The house is awfully quiet with 4 of the children at camp.  It's a nice start to our summer, but I'll be glad when they come home and tell me all about it.  I'm even looking forward to a week's worth of laundry coming home all at once.  That must mean I miss them, right?

    1. I am trying to enjoy the quiet, but it's a very different dynamic for us, lol. I can't wait to hear all their stories when they get home. I'm sure my ears will be bleeding by the time they all finish!
