Homeschool Weekly Wrap Up: The Bonus Week

We loosely follow the school schedule of Samuel's private school.  Since they had a minimum day and 2 days off this week, and we had Halloween this week, I decided to hit pause on our regular curriculum, and just do math and various enrichments this week.

Brianna has started learning to play the piano!

Week 2 of Katie in the big girl bed is not going so well.  She's fallen out of bed in the night once, and she's decided that she can get up and play during nap time.  Not cool.  I also had to move her bed away from the wall a little bit because she was kicking the wall with her brace or dragging that leg across the wall, and my room is on the other side of that wall.

I won caterpillars from Bio Fun Lab on Kathy's Cluttered Mind!  Then I used my Amazon credit to get a butterfly habitat  and a couple of butterfly books to go along with them.  The picture above is Sam opening the box the caterpillars arrived in.

They were tiny when they first arrived.

Then we realized they were only 3 days old!

They quickly got bigger, though.

In addition to reading books aloud, we took time to play games.

Including Great Pumpkin Uno!

Getting bigger and bigger.

I gave the kids Ancient Egypt Toob sets to play with and told them they could make dioramas.  It's hard to see in the picture, but Eli's got the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids in there, and an oasis.  The blue strip is the Nile River.

Brianna brought some leaves in to add to hers.

She also used craft sand, which Eli wouldn't go anywhere near.

Jack's definition of diorama is a little... interpretive at this point.

Speaking of games, we also played Go Fish Cards and Book Ancient Egypt, which is a product that other Crew members reviewed this year.  I love hearing about (and trying out!) so many new and interesting things by being part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew.  If you are interested in applying to be part of the Crew next year, applications are being accepted until 11/8.  Please see here for details.

    1. Thank you! :) That's one of the preview pictures. I can't wait to get all the shots from yesterday's session. First time ever having all 10 kids together!

  2. I noticed you use games. I thoroughly believe in children being physically involved in the learning process. Brain Based Teaching And Learning is an article that talks about how that even improves the health of the brain.
