Can't-Wait Willow! review and GIVEAWAY

We were blessed to receive Can't-Wait Willow from Ideals Books for review.  This lovely, hardback book with dust jacket has a retail price of $14.99.

My absolute favorite feature of this book was the star on each page.  Illustrator Luanne Marten puts so much character into a simple star!

When Willow makes poor choices, the faceless star looks sad.

But when Willow makes good choices, the star is happy and jumps around!

Although the book is suggested for children ages 4-8, my couch reviewers were ages 3-12, and my 15 year old was listening in from afar.

Can't-Wait Willow, by Christy Ziglar, is about delayed gratification.  Someone dear to me once told me, "The good is the enemy of the best."  This has really proven true for me over the years.  Sometimes I say yes to too many good things.  Yes to soccer, homeschool group, ladies Bible study, and so on.  Only to find I've used up all my time on things that are good, but I've left no time for what's best;  actual homeschooling, connecting with my spouse and family, keeping our home neat, etc.  What a blessing it is to share this concept with my children in a story that they can relate to.

Willow has been anticipating the circus coming to town.  She's so excited when it's finally time!  Only, she gets distracted on the way to the circus by perfectly good things, and ends up getting to the circus after the show and without any money left.

Reading this to my children, I was reminded of the marshmallow test for delayed gratification.  This story seems like a more humane way to convey the same message to your kids.
