Family Picture Day 2014

I thought you guys might enjoy some of the outtakes of the shots I took before we left the house.  I wanted to get a decent picture of each child by themselves, to use in the blog sidebar.

Jack looked at Sam.

Luke is particularly hard to photograph.

We tried sitting, we tried standing.

We tried various siblings behind me making noises and calling his name.

Yes, Paul is checking his watch in this one.  We were early.

We had to look up how to tie a tie on YouTube.

Actually, I was surprised at how cooperative most of the kids were.  Our original plan was to have a friend take pictures for us in the park, but she was up sick all night and couldn't do it.  So I scrambled and got us in to a studio in the mall.

The extra day gave me a chance to make the little girls the necklaces they're wearing.  Hannah's has a gingerbread man, and Katie's has a candy cane.

On the way home from pictures, Katie chirped from her carseat something about necklace and candy.  Since she'd just had a candy bracelet from Halloween, I turned around and said, "No, Katie, that's not candy!  Don't eat the beads!"  Annaliese was sitting next to her and said, "Mom, there's a candy cane on her necklace."  Oops.

Note to self:  Eli needs a man sized tie next year.

Egads, when did this happen?  Brianna designed and made her own necklace.

As we were getting everyone posed for pictures, I told the photographer, "This one (meaning Josiah) is NOT going to smile, and that one (meaning Luke) is going to scream the whole time.  Just roll with it."  All things considered, it actually went rather well.  The real pictures will be back in a couple weeks.

It's nice to get everybody polished up once a year and take pictures.  Surprisingly, I got less push back from my family this year.  Either they've given up on changing me, or they're coming to appreciate our nice family pictures.  I'm so glad they humor me.
